Water Filtration
Overview
Our selection of Silica Sand and Silica Gravel for water filtration provides effective purification and efficiently removes impurities, sediment, and particulate matter from water sources. It is optimal for drinking water, pool filtration, sewage treatment, oilfield water filters, and industrial processes.
Alliance Silica is proud to offer high-grade, spherical sand that is highly compaction-resistant. That makes it the perfect “silica sand for water filtration” and gravel pack applications.
Types of Filtration
Our premium silica sand is ideal for many water filtration applications, including a gravel pack in wells, the mass production of smaller water filters, or large-scale water filtration and circulation applications. Some examples include:
- Process water and wastewater systems
- Drinking water filters
- Gravel pack for well construction
- Industrial-scale water filters for building cooling systems and municipalities
- Chemical processes and power generation
For large-scale operations, such as industrial-level water cooling systems or water purification systems, silica sand is a better option than artificial filters in the water filtration process.
Benefits
- Free from contaminants with low levels of soluble substances to ensure water quality and meet stringent industry regulations.
- Precise particle size and controlled gradation of coarse-grained gravel offer superior filtration efficiency and extended lifespan.
- Durable, effective, and requires minimal maintenance.
- Optimizes downtime and operational costs for filtration systems.
Why is Silica Sand Used in Water Filtration?
Silica sand is commonly used for water filtration due to its sub-round to-round shape. It makes an excellent filtration medium to capture solids that are suspended in water. Moreover, the sand contains a high silica content, which makes it highly durable and hard-wearing. This durability allows the sand to be precisely graded, which in turn enhances its efficiency in filtering water.
What is a Gravel Pack?
A gravel pack is a type of filter that is installed downhole in a well. Its purpose is to prevent unwanted sand from entering the well and to enable maximum water flow. The gravel pack sand, which is sized appropriately, is used to hold the formation sand in place, and a screen of suitable size is used to hold the gravel pack sand in place. This process effectively blocks the flow of formation sand particles into the well, which helps to increase water flow and reduce the amount of sand that is produced.
